All in the Family: Pavilion Member Profile - John & Kathleen Booth - Pavilion

Written by Pavilion HQ | May 14, 2021 4:00:00 AM

Here at Pavilion, we operate like family — and we believe that family can be the people you choose. That said, we love to see actual family members in our ranks. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share Q&As with the Pavilion Members who also happen to be family members. Our second profile is on husband and wife duo John and Kathleen Booth.

John Booth, VP Marketing, Cipher

Kathleen Booth, VP Marketing, clean.io

PVLN: How did you both hear about Pavilion?

Kathleen: I was looking for a new job back in the fall of 2019 and spread the word within my network. Suddenly, I started getting really good interviews for roles with exactly the types of companies I was interested in working in. When I asked how they had heard of me, they mentioned Pavilion (then Revenue Collective). It turned out that one of my connections was a member and had shared my resume in the Slack channel. As soon as I heard that, I applied to join.

John: Kathleen suggested I join.

PVLN: Who joined first? And how did that person convince the other person to join?

Kathleen: I was the first to join. As VP of Marketing in a startup company, I found a lot of value in having a network of peers to turn to for advice, help, and support. John is essentially in the same kind of role I am, just in a different company, and I knew he would benefit from it like I did, so I recommended he join.

PVLN: Is a revenue-focused career path common among your family members?

Kathleen: John and I started a business together the same year we got married. It was a marketing agency, and I was CEO, and he was President. We worked together for 11 years before selling the company. Since then, we’ve both worked as VP of Marketing for early-stage, VC-backed companies.

John: I began my professional career in sales and held various sales leadership positions before starting Quintain. I have always believed no matter what the role, you want to be close to revenue.

PVLN: How often do you cross paths in Slack channels or at events?

Kathleen: Funny enough, we don’t cross paths very often. One thing I love about Pavilion is how large the network has grown. We use it in different ways, and occasionally we’ll bump into each other or tag each other in a Slack conversation that the other might find interesting.

John: The one exception to this is when we both attend our home group (WDC) events, Kathleen is one of the co-leaders. I have been known to introduce myself as “Kathleen’s husband.” She is so active in Pavilion it seems everyone knows her.

PVLN: How often did you lean on each other for advice before Pavilion?

Kathleen: We’ve always relied heavily on each other for help and advice, starting when we worked together at our agency and continuing today both within Pavilion and in a private Slack channel that we have just with each other (yes, we are that nerdy couple that Slacks each other throughout the day — usually about work, but also occasionally about what’s for dinner or who has fed the dogs)

John: A day doesn’t go by when I don’t lean on Kathleen. To this day, I rely on her to proofread and edit my writing. It is rare that I find a new app or technology before her, although Pavilion has helped me with this. The Pavilion community is so collaborative and open to sharing ideas.
